1. HEALING: When You Have Poor Digestion, Consider This…
Poor digestion is one of the most common yet overlooked health issues today. Many of us live with symptoms like bloating, wind, discomfort, sluggishness, constipation, or diarrhoea—without realising that these are signs our digestive system is struggling.
But what exactly is "poor digestion"?
Simply put, it’s when the body isn’t able to properly break down food and absorb nutrients. This can happen for many reasons - eating too fast, drinking copious amounts of fluids with meals, eating under stress, not chewing properly, poor enzyme, acid, or bile production, or even imbalances in gut bacteria. Over time, poor digestion doesn't just affect the gut - it can impact energy, mood, skin, immune health, and overall wellbeing.
What Causes Poor Digestion?
Eating while stressed or distracted (being in "fight or flight" mode):
When we eat in a stressed state, the body prioritises survival over digestion, leading to poor breakdown and absorption of food.Eating too quickly and not chewing food properly:
Inadequate chewing means food reaches the stomach too large to be properly digested, placing extra strain on the digestive system.Low stomach acid or poor enzyme production:
Without enough stomach acid and digestive enzymes, the body struggles to break down proteins, fats, and carbohydrates efficiently.Imbalances in the gut microbiome (dysbiosis):
An overgrowth of harmful bacteria or a lack of beneficial bacteria disrupts digestion, nutrient absorption, and gut health overall.Inflammation in the digestive tract:
Chronic irritation or inflammation damages the gut lining, impairs digestion, and can lead to symptoms like bloating, pain, and irregular bowel movements.Overconsumption of processed foods, alcohol, or caffeine:
Highly processed foods and excess stimulants weaken digestion by inflaming the gut, altering gut flora, and reducing digestive function.Chronic stress that disrupts the nervous system and gut-brain connection:
Ongoing stress dysregulates the communication between the brain and gut, slowing down digestive processes and contributing to persistent symptoms.
Healing digestion is not just about what you eat - it’s how you eat.
